HOT AIR BALLOON
Cappadocia is known around the world as one of the best places to fly on hot air balloons and has amazing landscape which makes Balloon flights one of worlds the top 3.
The spectacular surrealistic landscapes combined with excellent flying conditions allow the balloons to gently drift over and between fairy chimneys. Pigeon houses hewn into the unique rock formations, orchards and vineyards through impressive valleys, each with distinctive rock formations, are all breathtaking views over the region.
When do they meet and pick you up for the flight ?
They usually pick you up from your hotel about 45 minutes before sunrise and drive to their spot for check-in and breakfast.
What to wear ?
Wear long trousers and tops with long sleeves, preferably made from natural fibres and suitable footwear for an outdoor activity. Having layers is a good idea as it is cold at the beginning and might get warmer at a later stage.
Are young participants allowed to fly ?
Young participants , children under 6 years are officially not allowed to fly on hot air balloon tours inTurkey.
Where do we get started ?
Hot air balloon companies change their take-off site everyday according to wind speed and direction in an efort to show you the most spectacular valleys and hills of Cappadocia.
How high up do they go ?
Usually up-to 500 meters from the ground. When the wind is calm, they may go higher than 1.000 meters.
Do they fly any time of the year ?
They do fly everyday, 12 months around the year. However, from October through March, the likelihood of cancellation due to bad weather conditions might e higher as compared to sumer season.
When do they cancel the flight ?
When the ground wind is faster than 10 knots, during heavy rain or fog, the flight will be canceled in accordance with the strict regulations of civil aviation authoirities. You will receive a full refund in case of cancellation of your flight.
How far do we travel during the flight ?
The distance traveled is often between 5 to 18 km depending on the wind-speed on the actual flying day.
Can the pregnant fly ?
No. If you are pregnant or think that you might be pregnant, you shouldn’t fly with ballons due to rare possible bumpy landings.
May the landing be bumpy ?
Occassionally. They usually land as smoothly as they can and they do so most of the time. But due to strong wind there might be little natural bumps when landing on which the basket will drag when the basket touches the ground for short while-may be just seconds-until it comes to a final halt.
Do we see sunrise from the balloon ?
They usually take-off just araound the sunrise and fly during the Golden Hour for photography. Needless to mention that this should not be taken for granted in advance by the participants as they sometimes might have to take-off later due to weather conditions that coincide with the exact time of sunrise.
Why do they fly so early in the morning ?
The wind is not very fast, there are no thermals yet and it is not too hot.
How do the participants get back to their hotel ?
Hot air balloon companies do have their minivans that will be following whichever direction the balloon naturally orienatates itself depending on the wind direction during the flight and will drive you back the participants to their hotels after the landing party celebration without loosing any extra time.
